Reducing Your Carbon Footprint

Homes produce a significant carbon footprint. There a several ways to reduce the carbon footprint that a home produces. Ways to lower the carbon footprint of a home are tied to using less energy from nonrenewable sources and lowering the amount of waste produced. M 43 LLC offers services that involve completing an energy audit of your home. This report directly covers the carbon footprint it produces. The report documents your home energy leaks and lists action steps to take lower it on an overall basis.

Featured below are list of a few changes that can be made to lower your homes carbon footprint:

  • Programmable Thermostat – Technology keeps getting better every year and so do thermostats.
  • Weather Stripping and Caulking – Low cost, easy to install and reduces cool air flowing in and warm air flowing out that costs you money.
  • Lighting – CFLs (compact fluorescent light bulbs) are not new anymore, but they are very cool because they use 1/3 of energy of a regular light bulb. Savings can add up to $40 over a lifetime.
  • HVAC/Heating and Cool Systems – Make sure the system in your home is maintained annually. If it’s old replace it with an ENERGY STAR system.
  • Low-Flow Toilets and Water Reducing Showerheads – The price of water piped into your home goes up all the time. Use of better appliances when it comes to water like those suggested and not running water when it’s unnecessary will reduce your water use and save you money.
  • Appliances – Buy ENERGY STAR appliances. If you’re replacing them keep in mind the long-term cost not the purchase price. If the appliance is cheap it will most likely use more electricity.
  • Extra Unneeded Appliances – If there’s an extra refrigerator in your garage or on the back porch and you don’t really need it, give it away or unplug it, save some money and reduce your carbon footprint.
  • Windows – This is a major purchase, but it will reduce your energy use and lower your home’s carbon footprint.
  • Solar – Review your options and make sure you’re making a wise purchase.
